It started with something that mattered to our family.

 

Some decisions in life are easy to put off.

 

Writing a will. Thinking about what would happen if you could no longer make your own decisions. Talking about what happens to your home, your finances or your family if circumstances change.

 

There always seems to be a reason to do it another day.

 

For us, the importance of putting those things in place became very real when Jemma’s dad (Rachel's grandad) became ill.

 

Thankfully, he already had a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) in place.

 

At a time when our family had enough to think about, we didn't have the added worry of wondering who could make important decisions on his behalf. The arrangements were already there. We knew what needed to happen, and we could concentrate on what really mattered at that moment.

 

It changed the way we thought about estate planning.

 

Because a will, trust or Lasting Power of Attorney isn't really about a document.

 

It's about what happens when life doesn't go according to plan.

 

And that is where our story began.
